6/14/2006 - Silent Universe Episode 2
The second
episode of the science fiction dramatic podcast "The Silent
Universe" entitled "Chinese Chess" is available for
download. Once again, I appear as Dr. Gordon Marcus...and I
encourage you to go check it out on iTunes, the
SU
website, or as a BitTorrent download.
6/12/2006 - A Little Tune Here and There...
Late last
week, I was privileged to sing for the Opera Carolina Board of
Directors final meeting of the year, in the home of Sydnor and
Harriette Thompson. Three pieces: Questo amor, vergonia mia
from Edgar (Puccini),
If Ever I Would Leave You
from Camelot, and Votre
toast je peux vous le rendre from Carmen (Bizet).
For the non-opera buffs, Votre toast is "The Toreador
Song." If it's still not ringing a bell.....think "Bad
News Bears.."or you could, y'know, click on the link
above...from a few years ago singing it for a senior function at
Davidson United Methodist Church in Davidson, NC.
6/2/2006 - A Special Note
I just got
back from singing the National Anthem for the opening of
Wachovia's Relay for Life. If you haven't heard of it. Relay for
Life is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. A
most worthy cause. A very dear friend of mine has a family
member suffering with cancer, like many people in this country
and around the world. If you can find it in you, please
give.

Updates
The Muzak tally to date: 1871 messages recorded...
I also
completed spots for Hooters (New Orleans, LA), McDonalds
(Southeast Regional), and the
Charlotte Area Transit System, as well as a project for
Raycom Sports.
Musically,
the
Peoria
Symphony Orchestra
has updated their webpage with information about the concert
next May, so head over and check it out! I will be singing with
soprano
Kishna Davis and other artists....an exciting gig!
Finally, I
will be appearing with
Opera
Carolina in the Verdi opera Rigoletto in March of 2007. We will have a great cast, including
Gordon Hawkins, who was with us a couple of seasons ago as
Baron Scarpia in Tosca, and
Eglise Gutierrez, who covered the role of Lucia in Lucia di
Lamemmoor with OC back in 2003.
Oh, and I
have to share this....if any of you are Star Trek fans, you MUST
check out these videos at
YouTube. Commercials by the G4TV television network
promoting their broadcasting of Star Trek: The Original Series.
You'll never look at Spock, Kirk, and Uhura the same way again.
Scotty.....bringing the POWER!
3/8/2006 - What's Going On Now...
Aside from
the Muzak tally (up to 591 spots this year), I have completed
radio work for
Mid-Atlantic Builders out of Washington, D.C.,
M&F Bank
out of Raleigh, NC, the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit, the
minor league baseball team the
Greenville Drive, a potential national television commercial
for local blues artist
Robin Rogers,
and...Coca-Cola! A non-broadcast presentation to the CEO of
McDonalds, but it's still Coke! Always nice to add that to the
resume...
2/24/2006 - Updates...and Exciting News!
Quick note on some recent
projects...I finished up a bundled television and radio package
for a new cellular phone company in Indianapolis, Cleveland, and
Pittsburgh: Revol
Wireless. I also did a non broadcast spot for a presentation
for the
Mayo Clinic. I admit, one of the great things about his work
is you get to do things for organizations you may never have had
contact with otherwise...
And the
exciting news....I am being contracted to sing a concert Porgy
and Bess performance with the
Peoria
Symphony Orchestra! The performance will be May 5, 2007.
That's a nice opportunity to be "home" (though my hometown is
still a couple of hours away) and a great piece to sing. More to
come.....
2/10/2006 - The Silent Universe
"There were
those who thought the the dawn of the Second Space Age would
unite humanity in a common cause....they couldn't have been more
wrong."
And so begins
The Silent Universe,
a new science fiction podcast, to be available on iTunes and the
SU website on February 15. Conceived by J. Marcus Xavier, this
is a new concept for podcasting, but old for our parents and
grandparents: audio drama. Admittedly, I listened to "The Sears
Radio Theater" on WBBM-AM 780 in Chicago in my youth (yeesh, I
sound like a grandparent!), so I was more than excited to be a
part of this project. Check it out, and hit the Silent Universe
forums
to let us know what you think!
Also, I just
added a
Guestbook, to the site, so I'd like to see how well this
works. Please, take a moment and sign it!
A couple of
new things, most recently a stint on a Lowes national commercial
(as an extra, alas, not a principal). Still as always, I met
some fun and interesting people on the shoot. Good luck to ALL
of them as they have upcoming work an auditions here in
Charlotte and across the country. I also completed a voiceover
project for LetterPress Software as a young Marine, a Wachovia
non-broadcast spot, an e-learning project, and last but not
least, we wrapped up
La Traviata with Opera Carolina. Check out that
wig....
I also
appeared in a video for fair housing in the Gulf Region,
and....wait for it...a commercial for the Southeast regional
grocery chain Harris Teeter, thanks to the lovely people at
JTA. It
is an "American Idol" spoof and aired on the first night of the
new season. Once I can procure a copy of it, I will post if for
your viewing pleasure.
On the music
side, I ended the year in Opera Carolina's production of Amahl &
the Night Visitors as Balthazar. A new production with new
costumes and sets. Some pictures of me and other cast in my
brand spanking new
Gallery!
